Hot Springs and Wall, SD

We're doing an extended weekend road trip around Wyoming and South Dakota. Here's some shots from the road, the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, and the iconic Wall Drug.

The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, SD, is a filled-in sink hole containing mammoths and other fossils from various time periods in history.  They've covered the site and leave a majority of the bones in situ so that scientists can continue to study them and visitors can see an active dig site.  Apparently, they do dig every year during the month of July, so that would probably be the best time to visit.

A tourist trap to be sure, but a huge one.  If you've driven around the Midwest, you may have seen eye-catching signs for Wall Drug in several states.  What started out as a marketing ploy has turned into, well, an even bigger one over the years.  So we had to drop by before dinner to see what all the fuss was about.
