Spring is Here!

A few years ago I noticed some tulips struggling in our side garden. I figured the bulbs hadn't been separated and replanted in awhile, so I did. Last year they didn't grow, but this year, we have two so far that have rebounded!

Travel to Munich & Denver

Well, all good things must come to an end. The fun part of my plane is the cameras they have on board - here's a few shots while flying over the northern territories of Canada!

Hiking, day 12: The Belvedere

For our last day in Vienna, we walked around one of the larger palaces in the city, the Belvedere.

Another shot of Karlskirche on the walk from the metro station.

The fountain, Hochstrahlbrunnen.

And finally, the grounds at the Belvedere.

Since it was our last day, I also took a few shots of these buildings near our hotel, since I hadn't yet.

Also, because it was our last day, we decided to revisit our favorite locations before leaving. First stop - Ammutson!

Second stop, we decided our favorite dinner had been 7Stern, so we headed back for round two.

Trees in bloom in the evening.

Mariahilf.

More street art.

Day off in Vienna

Unfortunately I ended up with a migraine and didn't make it out at all today. But here is my obligatory pic of my salmon with lemon sauce at dinner at the hotel!

Hiking, day 11: Innere Stadt

We headed to the city center for some of the more traditional stops. We didn't do a lot of the 'paid' museums or tours because they were all rather expensive, but we did make an exception for Stephensplatz - and for the catacombs below the church.

(Unfortunately, they don't allow photography in the catacombs, but it was a really interesting tour - especially the room with the bones and skulls lining the walls!)

We wandered around some more, taking more photos of the architecture and statues in the area.

Finally, after dinner, we headed to the local metal bar!

Really fun place - when we entered it was just us and the owner, who was very friendly and chatted with us for a while.  Great place to listen to a variety of metal genres and have a few cheap beers!

Hiking, day 10: Art Nouveau

Today's main purpose was to check out a lot of the architecture famous in Vienna; mainly the Art Nouveau buildings in the area - one of my favorite artistic styles.

Murals outside a school (I think).

Check out the golden globe on the top of the building.

And the first Art Nouveau building - Hundertwasser!

It was fun walking around the building to take pictures - and there was a touristy area next door where I was able to find a pretty awesome shirt based on one of Gustav Klimt's most recognizable paintings, so it was a good way to remember my outing for the day!

A little ways up the road is my second stop, Kunst Haus Wien.

I started meandering my way back towards the metro stop, so I took the opportunity to take in some other buildings while I was walking.

Beautiful tulips in front of Karlskirche.

Another stop on the Art Nouveau search - the old Karlsplatze train station above the existing stop, now a cafe. Designed by Otto Wagner.

Close-ups above and below of the details at Karlsplatz.

Next, Majolikahaus, also designed by Otto Wagner.

Quick snap on the way to dinner.

And the brewery for dinner - Salm Braeu. Parts of the location were built in 1717!

I pretty much ate goulash as often as I could here - it was soooo good!

Decided to try their seasonal - a chili beer.

We were seated in the vaults - a really cool area under the main restaurant.

The brewing equipment.

Another interesting and very old building on the walk back.
